Tour De France Tours
Each year we organize Tours in July corresponding with the Tour de France, they will comprise rides following the routes of previous and current Tours. Visits will be to some of the Tour stages in the Limousin and Auvergne regions, and to the Final stage in Paris.

Costs will depend upon numbers and the type of accommodation, regions visited and will generally be 2 weeks in duration.

7 DAY TOUR OF CULTURAL AND GASTRONOMIC DELIGHTS
For those who would enjoy a cultural and gastronomic discovery tour while increasing their fitness.

This proved to be a most enjoyable Tour that, according to our clients was beyond their highest expectations.

Their tour started at a Medieval market town staying at a hotel which locals say offers the best food in the region. Their delicious evening meal was cooked by a white hat chef who is the proprietor. In this town weaving and tapestry making that were once produced by the court of Louis XIV, are still practiced. The cyclists were greeted by our staff and their bikes checked for minor adjustments, then some of the group took their bikes, sampled the countryside and visited nearby Felletin with its 12th Century Church medieval buildings and beautiful river.

A short tour of the market produce was followed by a ride through Felletin via a different route to St Quentin and Crocq. This is a beautiful undulating ride through rich woodland lakes and streams where the ancient fortified towns and villages of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Richard the Lion Heart straddle the hillsides of beautiful wooded valleys. They arrived at an 18th Century water mill where they relaxed by the river with a cold beer and enjoyed an aperitif before the evening meal in the old Mill House.

Remaining at the water mill they then made a local tour of quiet medieval stone villages including Sermur, Le Compas, Lupersat, and Bellegarde–en-Marche, villages so unchanged and so beautiful they were used recently by France TV as settings for XVIIIth Century dramas. We passed Roman bridges, while cycling through quiet country lanes and farm hamlets. Nature lovers were thrilled to observe the wildlife including heron, geese, ducks wrens and finches in the ‘etangs’ (ponds) and lakes; also wild boar, ermine, deer, otter, hawks, and buzzards in the fields and woodland. After a superb meal of wild boar they spent a most comfortable night.

After a lazy breakfast more of those amazing country lanes past the huge Limousin cattle who inspect you as you glide by to St Domet with it’s lovely medieval church, past numerous water mills and chateaux, through Puy de Malsignat, Peyrat de Nonieres, then to an ancient Chateau Fort for a guided tour. After a leisurely cycle to their accommodation in Chenerailles for a beautifully presented 4 course meal with wine and a great dessert menu (this is a super restaurant) everyone had a stroll to browse the local antique showroom. No worries about the calories, they were lost the next day cycling!!

Passed through and investigated the little medieval villages of the Creuse, through woodland, pastures and lakes and arrived for a relaxing swim at the marvelously authentic chateau in the style of the 18th century set in parkland with stunning 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside. Our cyclists enjoyed an unforgettable provincial dinner in the great dining room and a restful night in the beautifully appointed apartments, renovated in the style of an XVIIIth century manor house.

On the following day they rode to a nearby town again with a lovely Chateau and enjoyed a gourmet picnic in the gardens, then a coffee at the Cafe in the market square and an optional wander through the Chateau. They returned via a different route stopping at some enormous rocks with a cafe and sipped cool lemonade arriveing for aperitifs and time for a swim before dinner.

The following day they enjoyed a shorter ride to historic Chambon-sur-Voueize with its marvelous Romanesque Abbey by the wide River Voueize returning through forest and meadows to Lussat. A further excursion for keener riders explored a village, where until recently gold was mined and where there still remain evidence of Roman and Celtic activity. The riders passed by ‘menhirs’ (standing stones from Neolithic times) and Neolithic and Roman sites; Medieval castles and Abbeys, local churches and water mills too numerous to mention. A great help was the detailed tour packs that provided details of these. The last day riding they visited an old water mill beautifully renovated with a museum of rural tools giving life to the historic rural life which has only recently been changed radically by technology. After refreshments sitting by the mill-stream they rode on to Evaux-les-Bains and to a beautiful old poultry farm with an Organic restaurant for our final dinner which was just wonderful.

10 day tours can be designed to your abilities and the distances that you feel comfortable riding.

A 10 Day Circuit Tour especially designed for Tri-athletes that began and finished in the Valley of the Tardes. They cycled the spectacular mountains and gorges of the Central Massif traveled through the Volcans (renowned volcanic chain with Tour de France cols) and the Parc Naturel Regional de Millevaches and its lakes, finally returning to the wooded river valleys and rolling hills of the Creuse. The panorama provided them with views of beautiful medieval towns and villages, Chateaus and Neolithic bridges and criss-crossed stages of the Tour de France still marked with the names of riders.

Plenty of time was set aside to visit Museums of Tapestry, Art, the Romanesque Abbeys and Chateaus and to relax with a coffee at a café, shop in country markets or visit a 15th century weavers house to view the ‘tapissiers’ at work. Detailed information packs were provided as well as health bars, ride snacks and picnic lunches of gourmet standard, so that they experienced the rich variety of local farm produce.

Each day’s riding was sequenced so that easier days in the saddle followed tougher rides, the routes followed country roads free of traffic where even the occasional deer jumped out and startled the riders. Buzzards and falcons were numerous, constantly drifting above the pastures and woodland.

Even the accommodation offered unique French experiences, such as resting at a lakeside hotel with an evening beer before dinner or enjoying beautiful mountain views in a Michelin restaurant. Another highlight included cycling on to a converted water mill with luxurious accommodation and a dinner of wild boar with fresh wild mushrooms collected that afternoon from the woods. after sampling amazing some in house traditional aperitifs produced from organic walnut or berry fruits. Arriving after a lovely ride at the old manor house featuring carefully restored original Louis XIV paneling and furniture and a swimming pool to relax in after a hot days riding.

1150 kms were covered in 10 days everything for the more serious cyclist. It followed the circuits used by the Tour de France and famous mountain climbs the Puy de Dôme, the Puy de Sancy and Mont D’Or were all conquered.
